Utensil strength part 3. Whisked away!

Here comes the 3rd (and last, for a while) in my series of jewelry pieces upcycled from weird plastic utensils.

To recap - I bought these critters at a yard sale:

Check out my two previous posts to see the spatula, spoon and ice cream scoop remodels. Today, a little show-and-tell with that coil-y, whisk-like black thing.

First, the deconstruction...

Eventually I'll find some use for the handle, but for now it's off to my someday drawer. I am going with the coil-y bit!

I took some heavy black wire (actually rebar tie wire from the hardware store), and a handful of hand-painted beads I bought in Spain.

I strung the beads and the wire through the coil-y thing, and secured each end with a loop. Result: this big, bold focal piece!

In building a necklace around it, I decided to aim for a kind of primitive look, to echo the centerpiece.

With the same heavy wire, I made a bunch of rough, imperfect squiggles, links and spirals:

Then I joined them together, ta-da!

That turned out fun, don't you think? From an oddball plastic egg whisk. Who would have guessed?

Thanks for following along as I experimented with utensils. If you guys try this, I would love to see anything you come up with! I hope you'll leave a comment with a picture link so we can all see.

One small postscript. Alert readers may have identified that one remaining piece as yet unmentioned. The business end of the ice cream scoop.

Well, I did turn it into something. Something a little bit, er, special, you might say.

The following necklace should only be worn in direst need.

I call it "In Case of Emergency."
