Convert A Napkin Ring Into A Pendant

Hi again, my friends!  I made some necklaces featuring these pretty, antiqued-finish pendants...

Would you have guessed they started out as a thrift store find?  Vintage napkin rings!

In the spirit of the grapes, I chose a nice red.  A little fruity, a little grassy, with a bit of old patina and a just hint of plated jump ring.

Wanna give this a whirl?  Here's the very easy DIY.

Snip off most of the ring, leaving about an inch of wire poking up.  Use hefty wire cutters for this, not delicate jewelry snips.

Take a look at those rough cut edges in the center of the focal piece.  Too sharp!  Use flat pliers to squish them tight, tight, tight against the back, so they won't snag or scratch.  If needed, you can use a file to sand them smooth.

Now comes the big move.  With round nose pliers, grab the end of the wire tail.  Curl a big loop.  Make sure to tuck it tight against the back of the focal piece so no rough edges poke out.

If your napkin ring has two wires, make a second loop.

That's it!  Your pendant is done and ready to string.

Isn't that fun?  I must go hunting for more of those cute napkin rings.

If you guys find them first, I won't be mad.
