Book Review: Mod Podge Rocks!

Confession: the title of this book makes me laugh.  It reminds me of my favorite joke ever* on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.  A teenager is confused by the words "Kiss Rocks!" in graffiti.  He wonders, "Why would anyone want to...?"  Then he figures it out.

Perhaps you see where I'm going with this.

Why would anyone want to Mod Podge rocks?  If there is anyone on the planet who could answer that question, and then show you how to do it, it'd be sooperblogger Amy Anderson, who has written this here really nifty book:

Mod Podge Rocks is absolutely packed with decoupage-y goodness.  40 fun and crafty projects - plus tips, tricks and expert advice on working with all the different Mod Podge formulas.  Amy really went above and beyond - I love her sharp writing, all the cool guest star crafters, and the substantial content.  This is no wimpy, la-di-da little craft book with a handful of dainty projects.  It is big!  It is meaty!  It is worth the price of admission and then some!

Look, here's the index...

If that doesn't titillate you, then you are utterly and completely untitillatable.

Although I'm a jewelry maker, I really found myself drawn to the small home decor projects scattered throughout.  Some of my favorites:

To obtain your own copy of the coolness that is Mod Podge Rocks, it's available on Amazon.  Or visit your local craft store or bookstore.  There's also this huge giveaway - heck, might as well enter!

I am inspired and gearing up for some Mod Podged decor projects of my own.  But right now?  Listen up.  When Amy Anderson tells me to Mod Podge rocks - dammit, that's exactly what I'm gonna do.

What are they for?  Not sure yet!  But I have a big, big box stuffed full of random tiny bits of paper art.  Clipped and saved over years and years, with the idea of turning them into pendants some day.  It was so simple to Mod Podge a few of them onto these river rocks.

(Crafter's Tip: if you have a dog, stealing your neighbor's xeriscaping is easy.  Just pretend to bend down to scoop up some dog poop, and whisk a few rocks into the bag instead.)

I had planned to use these as paperweights for my incoming mail, which I divide into three piles (Pay It, File It, Shred It.)

But I like my rocks so much, they might become a collection of random objets d'art, displayed in a bowl.  Or they'd make cute photo props for jewelry.  Or even little gifts.

Can't wait to make more.  I have hundreds of lovely, tiny bits of paper art, and my neighbor has hundreds of lovely rocks.  Oh, Baaailey?  Don't you need to go for walkies?

If we get caught, just play dumb.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book from the publisher.  All opinions are entirely my own.

  1. I have read so many good reviews about this book. Your review has convinced me. I make rocks for keeping tablecloths down on picnic tables at the beach..I usually paint someone's name....and then "rocks". Yours are SO pretty.

  2. Don't get me started. I know if I start, I'll never stop. I have an entire side yard full of perfect rocks. You don't even have to play dumb if I catch you.
