What are those twisty little contoured leaves? I upcycled them from something rather...unexpected. Even to me. I am dying to see if anyone can figure this out!
How it works: leave your guess in the comments. There will be two winners: first correct guess, and a random winner. That's right, I said random winner - so even if you don't know (or think someone else already got it), enter anyway, you could still win. And if your guess is funny, it might make my Most Creative Honor Roll.
This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere. C'mon and join in! There is only one rule.

absolutely definitely that gelatin layer Costco puts on top of their pumpkin pies at holiday time! It makes the pies look shiny and has made your necklace glimmer with spectacularness!
ReplyDeleteThey also kinda look like pieces from those cheap platic champagne glasses... the fluted ones that come in two pieces (and never stick real well to their bases so they want to tip over)
ReplyDeleteI bet that's not even close either.

Pieces cut from a clear plastic take-out container?
ReplyDeleteI also like the champagne glass guess a lot.
Hmm... I'm going to say, individually cut bits of plastic dish/cup ware. Some of that 'faux-glass' look rippled plastic.
ReplyDeleteOk - so it's not going to be anything simple or straightforward - an old plastic bottle of moisturiser cut up?

ooooosh... what in sam heck are those things? for sure some kinda plastic... are they contact lens holders all cut up maybe? do you even wear contacts? i don't know...
ReplyDeleteI think is a plastic container that was shrunk down - sort of a DIY shrink plastic
ReplyDeleteDag Mich, that's really pretty! Some kind of plastic for sure. Kinda looks like when you iron plastic bags together to make them sturdy. Very nice though.
ReplyDeleteare they the rubber gaskets that are on the inside of soda bottle caps?
ReplyDeleteThough they look like plastic I am going to go with those fries/rice crispies/ chips (ready to cook/fry types). They can be a) cut up into sizes, b)look glazy and c)have twists and turns like these....
ReplyDeleteOh Mich You are in full flow ;)
weird I know but I think they are dry embossed thick greaseproof paper.
ReplyDeleteplastic bottles, I think:-D
ReplyDeleteel collar me gusta mucho y los colores son precisos para este otoño lluvioso:-)!!
Either you tried out to work with polystyrene... or you just stole some fairies their wings! ^^
ReplyDeleteshed snakeskin
ReplyDeleteor bits of bubblewrap
I have two guesses.
ReplyDelete1.) The leaves are made from an old dishwashing detergent bottle.
2.) Also, plastic containers that once held potato salad, macaroni salad.

I have five guesses.
ReplyDelete1.) I think that the leaves are made from an iridescent vintage placemat, one from the forties or fifties.
2.)I think that the leaves are made from the material in the first picture. It looks some kind of iridescent plastic lamp, a plastic vintage lamp, the kind that you would find at a yard sale, thrift store or antique shop.
3.) I think it's plastic from the base of a plastic candy dish.
4.) I think it's plastic from a cake stand.
5.) I think it's plastic from a vase.

I think it's plastic from a nightlight.

The leaves are made from the item in the first picture. It looks like the base of a cake stand or something. It's some kind of kitchen item, the base of something.

Shrink plastic? You did sand it to get ready for color, and then cut them out - big - and shrunk them down to size. Whatever you did they turned out very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
A vintage plastic lamp.

Loincloths for albino pygmy mice or cutouts from lampshades you are no longer putting on your head and dancing with.
ReplyDeleteDried pieces of clear nail polish?
ReplyDeletepinkrose6785@hotmail.com
Hmmm, a clear plastic three-ring binder?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe an embossing folder?
ReplyDeleteLittle albino troll tongues.
ReplyDeleteI think wax or parchment paper, cooked and crinkled.
ReplyDeletecatalystflours@aim.com
PET plastic drinking bottle!!!cross my fingers!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't go and snip the wings off the fairies again did you?
ReplyDeleteCould be a cut up soap bottle. Or aardvark toenails. I'm leaning toward the aardvark.
ReplyDeletePS: The necklace is awesome!
ReplyDeletethey look like frosted chandelier light bulbs, the kind with the wavy- pretend - candle look to them. You dropped one while replacing the burned out one and decided "hey a new material to play with"- all they need is to have the edges sanded. so you did.
ReplyDeleteor they are lids from take out containers you sprayed with fake glass frosting first-bet that combo smelled real good in your oven when you shrunk them down.
oh wait I had another thought .they are the lampshades from antique wall sconces.(see second photo)
ReplyDeleteIn the design world we call them 'cheap floozies' but maybe that's a regional thing. Again you dropped it on your ceramic tile floor and you know what happens when you do that -shards everywhere.serendipity rules again.
Well, I think they are from plastic milk jugs... or leaves from a plastic tree you have growing in the back yard.
ReplyDeleteI have been racking my brain since yesterday on this one and still am not sure. my initial thought was fake nails...then I wondered if it was a take out container used like shrink it plastic..Im just not sure, but I know it will be something clever...and fyi this is my favorite piece ive seen since i've been playing this game it's beautiful!!

The petals on the plastic insertion thingy for tampons (just because you said it is strange even for you).
ReplyDeleteMich, for the love of youknowwho, how could you? I do realize that Gollum is an altogether rather unwholesome fellow, but pulling out his toenails is just... wrong. Really wrong. Plus, I reckon this necklace will smell faintly of algae and will be a tad slimy to the touch. Have you no heart, woman?
ReplyDeleteBummer (and don't count this comment!), I just realized that people already beat me to it. Peaches must have NAILed it. Not Gollum, bless his rotten soul, an aardvark! It is so obvious once you know. D'oh!
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty :) I think the leaves are made of some kind of packaging plastic?
ReplyDeleteThe sorta-kinda clear dixie cups cut into big leaf shapes and shrunk in the oven
ReplyDeletektscomer@att.net
I love that Melissa said about the tampon insertion thingy cos I've been wondering if you could use them for crafting for ages now... am I weird?
ReplyDeleteNot sure what kind of plastic it is, but it is BEAUTIFUL. You could have cast a spell on some beautiful leaf and froze it, like made it ice or something like that. Just like magic!
ReplyDeleteajp2020@charter.net
Although it looks like it's hard plastic, there's something about the softness of it. I can see a burn mark where the hole is, but it looks like vellum and I think that would go up in smoke if burned! Looking forward to seeing what it is, and very happy I found this site! You do some very nice work on a next to nothing budget :)

I definitely don't have a clue, but I have to say this is one of your prettiest creations yet.
ReplyDeletefrom plastic containers
ReplyDeleteHello dear :)
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful..whatever the material is..hehe..I am not good in guessing your mysteries,,huh,,It seems like plastic piece but i feel its something like glass, fused glass pieces, but those are not much thin too..well confused until you reveal :) haha
plastic silverwear?
ReplyDeletewhatever it is, its gorgeous.
