The Mystery Thing Revealed. And we have a winner!

Two days ago, I issued a challenge - identify the Mystery Flowers in these upcycled jewels:

And you stepped up.  Many great answers!  Thanks for playing, EVERYBODY!  Here is my Honor Roll of most creative (wrong) guesses:

Life In Rehab: Fans from the world's smallest stripper.
Michele Pacey: You've gone and torn the wings off of angels.  Wicked, wicked you.
EricaB: Dragon scales.
Erin: Old wedding dress pieces - the white from the pure bride, the yellow from the not-so-pure.
BK: Badminton shuttlecocks.
Bridget: Tinkerbell's formal dining tablecloth.
Alex: Smurfette's collection of Royal Ascot hats.
Pearlie: Bits cut off one of those horrid bridesmaid dresses from the 80s and 90s? I have one in an alarming shade of green in my closet if you need more.
Ashes: Lace from Marie Antoinette's petticoats.
Saraccino: You just went into a plastic factory and  forced them to make strange and beautiful stuff.
Amy: Flowers from Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

I love that several people liked the idea of badminton shuttlecocks.  You must be new here!  Way back at the beginning of this blog, I made a whole series of badminton jewelry.  Great minds thinking alike.

You can find the shuttlecock tutorials here, here and here.

Guess the Mystery Thing: Big and Flowery.

Good day to you!  And huzzah.  Why huzzah?  Because it's time for a new round of Guess the Mystery Thing!

Here's how it works.  First, I show you some upcycled jewelry, like so:

You try to identify the secret ingredient.  And if you're first to guess correctly, you win one.  Cool, right?

Okay, you have your assignment.  What are those mysterious flowery things?  Be specific for a better chance at the win.

Leave your guess in the comments.  There will be two winners: first correct guess and one random guess.  If nobody gets it, there will be two random winners.  So even if you're stumped, guess anyway, you could still win.  The more creative the guess, the better!

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere.  (You don't even have to be a follower of the blog, although I would lurve it if you were.)

The one and only rule:

1.  If your email isn't available in one click from an online profile, be sure to include your email address with your guess.

Okay, here's one last peekie...

This post brought to you by the letter S.

So here's a spiffy little upcycled jewelry idea, which came upon me during an unscheduled, severely boring stop at the auto supply store.  (My husband knows not to take me very often - the same way I don't drag him to bead emporia.)

Are you familiar with S-shaped clasps?  They're quite traditional, especially with certain kinds of ethnic jewelry.  They can be anything from very simple to very ornate.

Now see what I found at the-store-of-boring-things-and-chrome-ladies-with-frankly-impossible-proportions:

S-shaped carabiners.  In the prettiest colors!  I saw them again at a camera shop, and online at a sporting goods chain.  What a nifty, high-tech way to update the traditional S-clasp!

In those examples, I matched the clasp to the necklace colors.  Green with green, purple with purple, right?

But there's no reason at all you can't get playful with color...

Or experimental with length.

And then - mini drum roll? - there's this idea.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

See ya!

Make Silicone Cheerios! (What? Stop Looking At Me Like That.)

What can you make with a garishly neon, glitter-infused, squooshy silicone pencil grip from the dollar store?

Um, how about these?

Wanna make some?  Here's the super simple tutorial!

Quick tip with a neon grip.

Have you come across these things?  They're pretty easy to find:

Try the dollar store or anyplace with office supplies.  Mine came par avion from Canada, in a completely random and unexpected care package of weird craftables in French and English.  (My readers are the bestest!  Thanks, MissKoolAid!)

Here's a teeny idea.

I know, I know, it's practical and you can't wear it.  You're probably wondering, who is that, and what has she done with the real Mich.  Do not be alarmed.  As you might guess, this quickie post is a bit of a place holder, just to tide us over until I come up with some giddy gel grip gewelry.

Thinking...thinking...
